Child Orthodontics

Published on September 2, 2025

Once children reach the age of 7, it is highly encouraged for them to visit an orthodontist. We can work with you and your child on preventative care, addressing any issues early before their permanent teeth come in.

At Belmar Orthodontics, we work to make the entire orthodontist experience comfortable, safe, friendly, and welcoming to each and every individual. We understand that sometimes visiting an orthodontist can be scary, but we pride ourselves on our inviting atmosphere. We communicate with you and your child every step of the way, so they understand and grow comfortable with the orthodontic process designed for them.

Two-Phase Orthodontic Treatment
The Advantages of Two-Phase Treatments

When looking to provide proactive care, we choose to use the two-phase orthodontic treatment method to guide the development of your child’s jaw and tooth alignment as time goes on. Working towards a smile that is healthy, functional, and beautiful is why we start this care early, completing it once all permanent teeth have moved to their final positions.

By choosing to follow the Two-Phase Treatment plan, this will help us work towards repairing and preventing current and future jaw issues that your child may have. It’s easy to work on encouraging specific growth while they are still growing! This will reduce the potential need for complex treatments as their orthodontic journey continues.

Why Now and Not Later?

If orthodontic treatment is pushed back, this can sometimes make issues worsen as time goes on. Some of these issues can include bite problems, the need for surgery or extractions, or severe crowding. By stopping potential and developing issues early, we can help create the best outcomes for your child’s growth. As recommended by the American Association of Orthodontists, children should visit an orthodontist by the age of 7. A personalized plan can be made ahead of time, before treatment is needed, and offer better results.
