This plan pays more for non-network dentists on basic services than the other plans. There is also no waiting period for preventive care or basic services. Plan availability varies per state.

Primary Preferred Dental

Major services are covered after a 6-month waiting period, using network dentists. Plan availability varies per state.

Premiere Choice Dental

Designed to offer immediate coverage and network discounts for preventive care, basic and major services.

Premiere Elite Dental

This plan pays more for major services after a 6-month waiting period. There is no waiting period for preventive care or basic services.

With UnitedHealthCare Dental PPO plans, one set of post-treatment retainers (for orthodontic purposes) is typically covered for the course of a lifetime. UnitedHealthCare Dental PPO plans offer an estimated 50% coverage for lingual braces. The waiting period is 6 months while the maximum lifetime benefit is $1,500. When visiting a PPO orthodontist, you will receive the $1500 calendar year maximum.

Does UnitedHealthCare Dental cover X-Rays?

Yes, UnitedHealthCare Dental covers dental x-rays. UnitedHealthCare Dental offers full (100%) coverage of dental x-rays. UnitedHealthCare Dental plans do not require waiting periods for diagnostic services such as dental x-rays. However, some policies only pay for bitewing x‐rays, one set every 12 months, while full mouth x-rays once every 5 years.

Yes, an estimate of 70% of the total cost of your Invisalign treatment will be covered by UnitedHealthCare Dental if your plan includes orthodontic benefits. By checking the small print in your insurance policy, you can make sure that orthodontic treatments like Invisalign are covered. Watch out for a few provisions in the insurance policy, such as a non-covered expense clause, that could prevent you from receiving Invisalign coverage.

You will not be covered for Invisalign if your insurance policy specifies that orthodontics are not covered services or expenses. Additionally, keep an eye out for restrictions and exclusions.
